Partner ecosystem and co-sell glossary

Startups hire hundreds of reps with a stretched ramp because the partner network sits unused. Enterprise account executives often take about 18 months to ramp. Mapping and signal stay stuck in overlap-only tools, spreadsheets, manual mapping, or calls, emails, and texts. Venn is alliance-aware out of the box and hunts the next-right-action signal for newly hired account executives and channel / alliances teams. Win 2x deals via higher-quality leads. Venn does not just show partner overlap. It tells you the next partner action, not an overlap map.

This glossary defines the partner-ecosystem and co-sell terms buyers ask about. Each term has a stable anchor on this page. The same words apply to newly hired account executives, sales leadership, and channel / alliances teams.

Built for two motions that often run together: newly hired account executives (AEs) and sales leadership who need a daily path into accounts, and channel / alliances / partner-program teams who run the partner motion. Crossbeam itself now markets Partnerships and GTM Teams (including MCP) because account executives and partnership teams share one motion. Many teams run both.

Partners do not have to join Venn. PartnerTap already accepts CSV uploads, so 'partners don't need to join' is not unique. The difference is ranked warm paths, a ghost-written intro, live account signals, and BVA attribution in one workspace — partner participation stays optional.

14-day trial — no credit card required. Then Pro at $100 per user per month. There is no complimentary plan after the trial.

Crossbeam, Reveal, and PartnerTap are overlap-mapping tools. 6sense is complementary intent. A PRM such as PartnerStack or Salesforce Partner Cloud runs the program. Venn is the next action with your partners.

Account mapping

Account mapping is matching your target accounts to a partner's accounts so both sides can see shared coverage. Overlap-only tools such as Crossbeam, Reveal, and PartnerTap stop at that shared cell. Mapping is the input. The job, for a newly hired account executive and for a channel team, is the next action: which partner to ask, and what to send.

Partner overlap

Partner overlap is the set of accounts that appear in both your book and a partner's book. Overlap is a list, not a meeting. Venn does not treat overlap as the job. It ranks a warm path and tells you what action to take with that partner.

Co-selling

Co-selling is selling the same account with a partner: a shared intro, a joint call, or a partner-sourced opportunity. Co-sell breaks when the overlap is real and the intro never leaves drafts. The working motion is a ranked path plus a ready-to-forward intro. The account executive and the channel / alliances team share that draft.

Nearbound

Nearbound is selling through people and partners who already sit next to the account — a partner, a mutual contact, a warm path — instead of a cold list. Nearbound is the motion. The workspace still has to name the account, the partner, and the next action.

Ecosystem-led growth (ELG)

Ecosystem-led growth (ELG) is growing pipeline through the partner ecosystem: alliances, VARs, MSPs, MSSPs, and technology partners, not only direct outbound. ELG is the strategy. Account executives and channel / alliances teams run it as one motion when the partner network is actually used, rather than left in a spreadsheet.

Warm intro

A warm intro is an introduction from someone the account already knows, usually a partner, instead of a cold email from a newly hired account executive. A warm intro only counts when it is sent. A drafted, ready-to-forward note is what gets it out of drafts.

Partner signal (why-now)

A partner signal, or why-now, is a reason to act this week on a partner path: a funding round, an executive hire, a stack change, or a similar Ideal Client Profile signal. Overlap says the account is shared. A why-now signal says why to ask the partner now. Venn hunts that signal for the next right action. It is not the same thing as a 6sense heat map. 6sense is complementary intent. Many teams pair them.

Alliance-aware

Alliance-aware means the workspace already knows which alliances and partner programs touch an account, without a manual map. Venn is alliance-aware out of the box: it starts from the partner network you already have and hunts the next action, rather than waiting on a spreadsheet, a manual map, or a chain of calls, emails, and texts.

CAM (channel account manager)

A channel account manager (CAM) owns day-to-day partner relationships and is the person account executives ask for intros. A CAM drowns when every request is a spreadsheet and a blank email. The same ranked path and drafted intro serve the CAM and the newly hired account executive.

Alliances manager

An alliances manager runs technology and strategic alliances: program design, partner selection, and co-sell coverage, often beside CAMs who work named partners day to day. Both sit on the channel / alliances motion. Sales leadership and account executives use the same workspace. Neither desk is a separate product.

AE ramp

AE ramp is how long a newly hired account executive takes to produce pipeline. Enterprise account executives often take about 18 months to ramp when the partner network sits unused and mapping still runs on overlap-only tools, spreadsheets, manual mapping, or calls, emails, and texts. The first week goes faster when it starts with a ranked account, a partner path, and a drafted intro.

PRM (partner relationship management)

PRM, partner relationship management, is software for partner programs, portals, incentives, and enablement. Examples include PartnerStack, Impartner, Allbound, Channeltivity, Zift, Magentrix, WorkSpan, Mindmatrix, Zinfi, and Salesforce Partner Cloud. A PRM runs the program. It does not rank the next account action. Keep the PRM. Use Venn when the job is a meeting.

Partner-sourced pipeline

Partner-sourced pipeline is pipeline a partner originated — the partner brought the opportunity in. Sourced is a source label. It is not the same as a warm path you can act on this week, and it is not the same as partner-influenced pipeline.

Partner-influenced pipeline

Partner-influenced pipeline is pipeline your team sourced where a partner still touched the deal: an intro, a joint call, or a registration. Influenced is broader than partner-sourced. Reporting either number still needs a next action on the accounts that are not yet opportunities.

Ghost intro

A ghost intro is a short intro email written for the partner to forward, so the warm path does not die on a blank page. The account executive and the CAM use the same draft.

Frequently asked questions

Who is this glossary for?

Newly hired account executives, sales leadership, and channel / alliances teams. The terms are shared. One workspace covers both desks: the AE who needs a path into an account, and the channel or alliances lead who runs the partner motion.

Is partner overlap the same as a next action?

No. Overlap is the shared-account list from tools such as Crossbeam, Reveal, or PartnerTap, or from a spreadsheet. The next action is which partner to ask and what to send. Venn does not just show partner overlap. It tells you what action to take with your partners.

Do these terms replace a PRM, Crossbeam, or 6sense?

No. A PRM runs the partner program and portal. Crossbeam, Reveal, and PartnerTap map overlap. 6sense is complementary ABM and intent. Venn ranks the partner path and the next action. Many teams keep those tools and add Venn.
